Education Opportunities
Texas State Center for Analytics and Data Science (TXST CADS) hosts an AI/Machine Learning Education Series in collaboration with NVIDIA, Dell Technologies, and Mark III Systems. This bi-weekly free education series is 100% virtual and will include six sessions providing overview tutorials and hands-on labs. This introductory series will feature industry experts and does not require any specific background. Exclusive
Bronze, Silver and Gold LinkedIn badges will be issued to participants that attend 4,5 and 6 sessions, respectively! Please register for sessions at https://trending.markiiisys.com/txstate-aiseries and contact cads@txstate.edu with any questions. See attached for the flier.
Research
TXST NSF ExpandAI Grant that aims to build AI capacity at TXST as kicked off. The activities include offering Applied AI Summer School and High-Performance Training, creating AI methods and application modules, supporting interdisciplinary AI research and providing development opportunities for our students.
Upcoming Events
- Texas State's Data Analytics Student Organization is hosting an open house! They will have food and talk a bit about their plans. Please share it with our students. It will be on Jan 30th, 4-5 PM at McCoy 225.
- Department of Information Systems and Analytics is kicking off their seminar series with a virtual talk by Prof. Fiona Nah from City University of Hong Kong. The seminar titled ‘A Study of Flow Experience in Video Gaming Using Electroencephalogram (EEG)’ will be on Friday, February 2, 2024: at 9:10 AM at https://txstate.zoom.us/j/2607561594. Please reach out to Dr. Dincer Konur with any questions.
- We are honored to support University Libraries in their hosting the inaugural TXST Open Datathon during the week of Feb. 12-16. Student participants will immerse themselves in the world of open data resources and data science. They will work collaboratively to make a meaningful impact on real-world issues through open data and share final digital artifacts to compete for top awards. The event is open to students from all academic disciplines. Please encourage your students to join the fun!
- CADS Seminar Series will kick off this semester on Feb 16th 10 am with Dr. David Morton, Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University. His seminar titled ‘Design, Calibration, and Optimization of Pandemic Alert Systems will be in McCoy 241 and on zoom https://txstate.zoom.us/j/2607561594 Dr. Morton will be in McCoy 465, 11am-noon to meet with interested faculty. Please see attached flier for more details.
Funding Opportunities
- Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is accepting applications for the SIAM-Simons Undergraduate Summer Research Program, which will provide research, networking, and mentorship opportunities to U.S. students from underrepresented groups. Participating students will receive a stipend of $1,000/week and will have their housing, meals, and travel expenses paid. This is an amazing opportunity for students to immerse themselves in data science research while simultaneously participating in professional development and community-building activities. Projects appropriate for students at all undergraduate levels will be available, and prior research and math/data science experience is not required. Applications are due February 7 and supporting letters of recommendation are due February 14.
- If you missed the Hanover Funding Landscape for AI & Machine Learning webinar, you can access it on demand and additional resources. Reach out to CADS for support in proposal development.
